Embarking on a capstone project is an exhilarating journey, marked by the thrill of innovation and the determination to make a meaningful impact. As I navigate through the intricate process of bringing my vision to life, I'm excited to provide you with a progress update on my project. At this stage, I've delved into the fascinating world of prototyping, exploring the app's user interface, virtual character setup, and the app's color theme, all aimed at creating a supportive space for Asian teenagers battling depression.
Prototyping and User Interface:
My journey into the realm of prototyping has begun with a series of sketches that outline the fundamental app interfaces. As with any app, there's a logical sequence: the loading page, registration, and login pages. These are the essential building blocks for a seamless user experience. But what sets my app apart is its focus on virtual characters. To accommodate this unique feature, I've also designed a virtual character setup page, where users can craft their ideal companions. However, an exciting twist has emerged in my design process.
AI-Generated Virtual Characters:
While initially considering user-generated characters, I'm now exploring the possibility of harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to generate virtual characters. Inspired by AI-generated art, where users can input preferences and have AI create unique pieces, I envision a similar approach for crafting virtual companions. Although this path presents challenges, such as finding suitable AI plugins, the potential for personalization and uniqueness is promising. It's an idea that aligns with the fusion of technology and empathy that drives my project.

Choosing the Right Color Palette:
The color palette of the app is more than just aesthetics; it's a reflection of the emotional experience I want to offer users. In the realm of depression, colors hold significant meaning. After extensive research, I realized that people have varying opinions on which colors are suitable. In seeking advice, I turned to Mairi, who wisely recommended that I follow my heart. After introspection, I settled on a combination of green and blue. Green evokes feelings of calmness and connection with nature, while blue ties into the app's name, 'Fight the blue,' alluding to the colloquial expression for feeling down.
As my capstone project unfolds, I'm inspired by the progress made thus far. Prototyping has breathed life into my concept, and the potential for AI-generated virtual characters has opened exciting new avenues. The choice of a color palette that resonates with both depression and East Asian sensibilities reflects a thoughtful design process.
The journey is far from over, and the road ahead holds its own challenges and surprises. But with each step, I'm driven by the vision of creating an app that offers solace, companionship, and support to Asian teenagers battling depression. It's a journey marked by innovation, empathy, and a deep commitment to making a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Together, we're forging a path toward brighter days and stronger emotional well-being.
